Make courses is a fun yet daunting task, this post is a list of Ideas for a Pixel art Course! I made a course on Skillshare covering the basics of Pixel art using a free software named Piskel:
For those who don’t have Skillshare and interested in checking it out here is a link with an addtional FREE month using our link HERE.
Now let’s continue with the course ideas!
After covering the basics of Pixel art, I would suggest a course on Color theory. Finding your perfect color when designing can be very frustrating and time consuming, I mean am I the only one who spent over 30mins finding the perfect shade of brown and green for a simple background tree?… I hope not.
In the Color Theory course, we will have a couple of sections to better understand and guide you through finding the perfect color:
- Introduction 3mins: Greetings, what the course is about, what you can expect after completing the course and a Sick intro song!! (hopefully).
- Setting up free Piskel software 1 min: tutorial on where to find Piskel software and start drawing, put link to prior course if haven’t already on how to use it.
- Summary on Color theory 10 mins: what it is, basic concepts, basic applied uses and examples.
- Practice exercise 15 mins: Coloring a provided drawing, mix matching/replacing nonmatching colors using Color Theory.
- Finding Colors for shadows 10 mins: teaching methods to apply shadows to pixel art.
- Finding Colors for highlighting 10 mins: Teaching methods of finding colors to highlight areas and light sources.
- Making a perfect Light Gradient 15 mins: Teach methods on creating gradients, from darkest colors to brightest.
- Practice exercise 15 mins: Fixing colors and applying shadows and light to provided drawing.
- Making Colors blend with a Gradient 15 mins: Teaching how to make the shadows and light a different color and blending colors in general.
- Creating your desired Color palette 10 mins: help setting up your color palette and ideal colors before starting to color.
- Class project and messing around with colors 20 mins: A fun and free segment where I fool around with colors and gradients while I make commentary. I will also explain and make our class project that consists of making a simple drawing with 2 main colors 3 color variants, applying shadows and a light source.
That is my next course plan. I have more courses planned that are for a more intermediate student, mostly game designed art and animation. Maybe a mix between a card game and animation course.
if you have any Ideas let me know in the comment section or send me a tweet. I love sharing and making ideas into reality!
